Preparation and Application
The wood moisture content should be between 12 % and 15 %.
The selected wood, the design and the applied layer thicknesses should comply with current technical standards for example, all horizontal surfaces should be bevelled by 15 ° and all edges shall be rounded with a radius of at least 2 mm.
Old and loose coatings must be completely removed. Intact coating should be completely sanded smooth.
Fresh wood must be impregnated prior to coating, if necessary.
Open joints and cracks should be repaired using with Kodrin WV Joint Sealing Compound.
The substrates must be dry, free from dust and grease.
The selection and application of the coating, especially the colour shade, is important too. Dark coatings in the exterior may lead to an elevated surface temperature (up to 80 °C) in direct sunlight.
Cleaning
Clean equipment immediately after use with clean cold water or by a solution of Sikkens ST 830 and fresh lukewarm water.
Note
Timbers which contain extractives i.e Oak, Larch or tropical woods can cause discolouring - these can appear after weathering.
