About Tikkurila Oljypohja Wood Primer

Alkyd Oil Primer for exterior painting of bare wooden surfaces before finishing with oil-based or acrylic paints. It is also recommended for priming surfaces previously treated with oil-based paints. It is ideal for priming exterior cladding, window frames, railings and fences.

Surface Preparation

The surface to be treated has to be dry i.e. the humidity of the wood has to be under conditions 20 %. During painting and drying the temperature of the air should be at least +5°C and the relative humidity of the air under 80 %.

Unpainted surfaces: Clean the surface from all dirt, mould and loose material. Prime the surface at earliest possible stage with Valtti Base. Touch up nail heads, and other rusting metal parts with Rostex Super Metal Primer. Repair surface defects, holes and splits. Remove resin from knots with a sharp solvent and treat with Oksalakka Knotting Lacquer.

Previously painted surfaces: Remove loose material with a scraper and clean the surface with a steel brush. Wash down dirty and mould affected surfaces with Cleaner Degreaser and Mould Removal Solution. Treat bare wooden surfaces with Valtti Base.

Application and Thinning

Brush only.
