About Teknos Teknoseal 4000 End Grain Sealer

The rate of water absorption in exterior joinery is several orders of magnitude greater through the end grain than through the face of a component.

Unprotected end grain acts like blotting paper, drawing in moisture and creating ideal conditions for coating delamination, timber discolouration and ultimately rot.

Painting and preservative treatment have little impact on end grain absorption and the only effective protection is to seal any exposed end grain.

Teknoseal 4000, a water-based end grain sealer, dramatically reduces the vulnerability of end grain to moisture ingress extending both maintenance intervals and ultimate service life.

Pre-treatment

The wood must always be clean and free from any form of wood dust or contamination. Moisture content of the wood must be approx 13% and should never exceed 18%. 

All types of softwood and non durable hardwood for exterior use should either be vacuum impregnated (only softwood) or treated with a type of wood preservative. 

Application

Brush only. 

Application Conditions

The product is ready for use. 

Optimum temperature for products and surroundings: 18-22 degrees.

Optimum relative air humidity: Approx. 50%

System Treatment

All primed parts must always be protected with a topcoat treatment before they can be exposed to any influence of weather. 

Drying Times

Dry to handle: 1/2 Hour 

The drying times are always approximate and will vary according to the quality of the wood, the temperature, humidity, ventilation and film thickness. 

Cleaning

The equipment must be cleaned with fresh clean water.
