Teknos Siloksan Facade
Siloksan Façade is a waterborne, flat silicone emulsion based paint for mineral surfaces.
The paint is very permeable and water-repellent.
It is free from solvents that contain aromatics.
It is suitable for new and previously painted facades outdoors, e.g. concrete, plaster, lime-sand brick and mineral boards.
About Teknos Siloksan Facade Silicate Masonry Paint
Siloksan Façade is a waterborne, silicate paint for mineral surfaces. The paint is very permeable and water-repellent with a low Sd measure.
It is free of solvents that contain aromatics.
It is suitable for new and previously painted facades outdoors, e.g. concrete, plaster, lime-sand brick and mineral boards.
Siloksan Façade silicone emulsion paint is easy to apply with roller or spray.
Its binder composition prevents the paint from becoming brittle by the action of UV-light or heat.
As Siloksan Facade is water-repellent it keeps clean even in urban climate, and acid gases in the atmosphere do not corrode it.
Siloksan Facade can be over-coated the same day.
It does not require any separate priming coat on most unpainted or previously painted surfaces, when SILOKSAN GEL is added into the paint for the first coat.
Surface Preparation
New Surfaces
New concrete element or cast surfaces can be painted with Siloksan Façade Silicone emulsion paint when a minimum of one month has passed after the casting, the surface is completely bound and no longer wet or matt moist.
The moisture values of the concrete must be under 97% and relative humidity (RH) or 4 % by weight.
It is recommended that new plaster surfaces are coated only after a hardening time of 6-8 weeks.
Remove all dirt from the surfaces by cleaning with high pressure washer.
Note - When painting concrete elements take care of removing the laitance before painting.
When preparing and painting substrates containing asbestos, regulations given by authorities must be followed.
Previously Painted Surfaces
Remove flaking and poorly adherent or pulverized (e.g. lime wash) paint coats from previously painted surfaces.
The method to be used is chosen depending on the strength of the substrate and the type of the paint to be removed (e.g. wire-brushing, hot pressurized-water cleaning or water-sand cleaning).
Remove poorly adherent, brittle plaster and concrete surfaces.
Check the condition of the concrete seams and repair where required.
If concrete constructions have cracks by the reinforcement bars, these cracks are to be opened by e.g. chipping or with a grinding machine.
Clean all rust from the exposed steel bars and protect them with e.g. a coat of an epoxy coating. Use appropriate mortar, on plaster surfaces repair mortar, to repair the opened cracks and dents.
Finish the repaired areas carefully and let them harden before they are painted.
Application
Priming - Before use stir the paint thoroughly
Prime clean and solid mineral surfaces with Siloksan Façade Silicone Emulsion Paint with an addition of SILOKSAN GEL (9:1)
For priming the paint may be diluted by 5 % with water
Finish with undiluted Siloksan Facade
Application Conditions
During the application and drying period the temperature of the ambient air, the surface and the paint shall be above +5 °C and the relative air humidity below 80 %.
Corby Elford | Question: With correct preparation of substrate and application conditions, how long is Teknos Siloksan Facade expected to last? |
Answer: The durability of Siloksan is very good and it should stay clean and fresh for over 10-15 years and if kept clean with minor preventative maintenance or touching up it should last much longer. All masonry paints wear as a result of the weather so walls facing the main direction of rain and sunlight will wear more quickly. We always suggest keeping the surface clear of any mould growth and residues from trees and shrubbery by periodically cleaning using a low power jet wash or large bristle brush and mild detergent. | |
