About Teknos Forme Water-Borne Wooden Floor Primer

Teknos Forme Wooden Floor and Parquet Primer is a water-borne acrylic primer specifically formulated to prime and seal wooden flooring prior to overcoating with Teknos Topaz and Teknos Opal wooden floor Lacquers.

Teknos Forme Wooden Floor and Parquet Primer is formulated to provide a clear, transparent, non-yellowing finish to wood and will have minimal effect on the colour of the substrate. (Always pre-test on a small area first to confirm acceptability).

Certain tropical hardwoods have surface characteristics, which may prevent full absorption of the lacquer.

Timber with high oils content may prevent adequate adhesion. Washing the surface thoroughly with a sharp solvent, drying thoroughly and pre-testing the primer on a small area is recommended.

Surface Preparation

Teknos Forme Wooden Floor Primer should only be applied to clean, dry substrates free from dust, dirt, wax, maintenance product residue, grease or anything that will inhibit good adhesion.

Oily hardwoods and knots should be cleaned with a ‘sharp’ solvent.

The use of knotting solution under Forme Wooden Floor Primer is not recommended.

As it is a transparent primer, any marks, blemishes or stains will be apparent after treatment.

Do not use wire wool for surface preparation.

Untreated Floors

Punch in all nails and fill holes with an appropriate shade of Prestonnet Wood filler.

Thoroughly sand the floor with a machine sander in the direction of the grain, back to clean, and bright wood.

Wood block floors should be sanded twice in two directions at right angles to each other.

Avoid inhaling dust by wearing a suitable facemask.

120 grade sandpaper should be used for final sanding. Round off any sharp edges.

Repair any surface defects with Wood Filler and sand smooth.

Allow dust to settle and remove by vacuuming.

Wipe over with a ‘sharp’ solvent and allow to dry thoroughly.

Prime with Teknos Forme Wood Floor and Parquet Primer and allow to dry.

If applying by brush or roller apply one coat.

If applying by steel blade, apply 2-3 coats.

Waterborne primers may cause the fibres of the wood to swell if this happens, very lightly sand to a achieve smooth surface
