Barrettine Patent Knotting for resinous woodwork
Barrettine Patent Knotting is a quick drying Shellac resin formulation applied over knots and resinous areas in timber such as spruce and pine.
It acts as a sealer, preventing resin from knots and soluble extractives in the wood from discolouring the paint surface.
Can be applied to bare timber inside and out prior to coating with traditional oil-based paints and semi-transparent lacquers.
If planning to apply water based primers, topcoats or light shades of semi-transparent wood lacquers, Barrettine White Knotting should be used in place of Patent Knotting.
Apply 1-2 coats by brush over knots and resinous areas.

Application
Ensure the area to be treated is clean dry and clear of any material that could interfere with the adhesion of the Knotting and subsequent coating.
Remove surface resin carefully with a sharp blade and clean the area with methylated spirit.
If the knot is highly active, a more permanent solution may be to remove the knot by drilling, filling with a good quality wood filler.
Apply a thin film of Knotting over the resinous area and allow to dry. A second thin coat may be required.
Do not thin.
Cleaning
Clean equipment with methylated spirit or acetone after use.
