About Rust-Oleum High Build Metal Primer 1080

Metal Primer 1080 is a heavy duty primer that offers extra protection of bare or blasted metal.

Maximum durability under severely corrosive conditions.

The product assures appropriate protection under C1 to C4 exposure conditions, when used with Alkythane 7500.

Surface Preparation

Remove grease, oil and all other surface contaminations with ND14 Cleaner Degreaser or high pressure (steam).

For optimum results remove rust, rust scale, mill scale and deteriorated coatings by abrading.

Sand previous coatings which are in good condition to roughen the surface slightly. 

The surface must be clean and dry during application.

Application and Thinning

Brush: up to 10% volume Thinner 633. Use natural long bristle brushes.

Roller: Up to 10% volume Thinner 633. Use medium pile, polyamide (perlon 8 -14 mm) rollers. Roller application may require 2 coats to achieve recommended dry film thickness.

Air-atomised spray: 10 to 20% volume Thinner 641. Gravity cup and pressure cup. Tip size: 1.4 -2.2 mm. Atomizing pressure: 2 - 4 bar. Check wet film thickness, avoid excessive film thickness.

Airless spray: Up to 20% volume Thinner 641. Pneumatic and electric airless equipment. Tip size: 0.013-0.015 inch. Fluid pressure: 130 - 200 bar. Check wet film thickness, avoid excessive film thickness.
