Ideal for application when ST3/Sa.2.5 preparation cannot be achieved. 

It has good weathering properties and excellent durability, retaining its gloss and colour over an extended period.

Used on gates, railings, industrial plant and agricultural machinery and earth moving equipment (ACE market).

Apply by brush or conventional spray. 

Available in any colour and a Matt, Satin or Gloss finish.

About Guard HBV High Build Vinyl Primer / Finish

New Guard, Guard HBV High Build Vinyl Primer / Finish is a 'OneCoat' primer finish used for galvanised steel structures and components.

Ideal for application when ST3/Sa.2.5 preparation cannot be achieved. 

It has good weathering properties and excellent durability, retaining its gloss and colour over an extended period.

Used on gates, railings, industrial plant and agricultural machinery and earth moving equipment (ACE market).

Apply by brush or conventional spray. 

Preparation

Surfaces to be coated must be clean, dry and free from any material such as oil, grease, salts and dirt that might affect adhesion.

Remove loose flaking or friable material. 

Where necessary, remove weld spatter and grind smooth all rough,sharp edges and weld seams.

Galvanised steel

Thoroughly degrease with Cleaner Degreaser (Product Reference H30 or ND14) and lightly abrade any very shiny areas. 

Mild Steel 

Degrease with a Cleaner Degreaser (Product Reference H30 or ND14) and manually abrade 

Phosphate Steel 

Degrease with Cleaner Degreaser (Product Reference H30 or ND14) and manually abrade prior to application of the Primer.

Stainless Steel

Degrease with Cleaner Degreaser (Product Reference H30 or ND14) and manually abrade prior to application of the Primer.

Aluminium and Alloys

Degrease with Cleaner Degreaser (Product Reference H30 or ND14) and manually abrade prior to application of the Primer.

The temperature of the ambient air, surface or paint should not fall below 5ºC during application or drying.

Application Conditions

Relative humidity should not exceed 80%. 

The surface temperature of the steel should remain at least 3ºC above the dew point.

Cold damp conditions will impair drying times and the final finish.

Recommended Film weight: WFT 250µm

Theoretical coverage rate: 4m² per litre at a WFT 250µm

Application Methods

Guard HBV can be applied by the following methods.

Airless Spray: Yes

Conventional Spray: Yes

Brush: Yes for small areas only. Thin 0.2% by volume with Guard Solvent A

Roller: Yes for small areas only. Thin 0.2% by volume with Guard Solvent A

Application Guidance 

Airless Spray

Output fluid pressure at tip 2000-2500 psi Mpa, 

Tip Size 18-21 thou 

Conventional Spray;

Thin with up to 10% added 3%-5% at a time.

Brush / Roller

Please note: application by brush will result in a reduced film thickness and is recommended only for small areas of touch up/remedial work. Brush application may leave brush marks.

Drying times at a WFT at 250µm and 23ºC 

Dust Dry: 1 hour

Recoatable: After 3 hours

Hard Dry: 12 hours 

Full cure: 3 days

Cleaning Tools and Equipment

Clean equipment with Guard Solvent A Thinner after use

% Volume Solids : 30%

VOC content : 575g / litre
