About Tikkurila Taika Pearlescent Paint

Surface Preparation
Wooden surfaces:
Remove loose paint or lacquer with a scraper.
Sand hard and glossy painted or lacquered surfaces matt.
Fill holes and cracks with a good quality wood filler and sand filled spots.
Prime with Tikkurila Helmi Primer
Please note: use Otex primer on surfaces covered with nitrocellulose lacquer.
Wall surfaces:
Wash down previously painted surfaces with Maalipesu cleaning agent and rinse carefully with water.
Sand hard and glossy surfaces to a matt finish.
Fill holes and cracks and sand the dry surfaces.
Application
Stir the paint carefully all the way to the bottom before use.
Apply two coats of Taika Pearl Paint by brushing, rolling or spraying.
On large surfaces, it is worth first applying with a roller and then smoothing it with a brush.
Use a high quality synthetic-fibre brush.
Wall surfaces/effect painting:
On wall surfaces, Taika Pearl Paint works best as a limited effect surface, whereby part of the wall paint used as a 'primer' is left visible.
The Taika colour card suggests suitable colours for wall paints that match Taika Pearl Paint.
Apply Taika Pearl Paint with a roller in areas of about 1m² at a time, and, if desired, immediately create effects using different effect rollers, brushes or sponges.
A trial application on thick cardboard is recommended.
If using a brush, work with small areas and finish immediately with a roller. In that way, border areas are not so easily visible.
Further ideas and more detailed instructions can be found in the Taika Guide and colour card.
Cleaning equipment
Remove excess paint from the tools. Wash the tools with soap and water.
For cleaning slightly hardened paint, we recommend Tikkurila Pensselipesu (Tool Cleaner).
Maintenance instructions
After application, the surface must be handled carefully for the first few weeks until the paint reaches it full hardness.
If the surface must be cleaned soon after painting, clean the surface lightly with soft brush, cloth or mop.
