About ViterLac C12 Anti-Corrosive Primer/Finish for Containers

ViterLac C12 Primer/Finish is a single pack pack, phenolic-modified alkyd eggshell primer/finish specially developed for for dry cargo transport containers, ISO tank containers, offices, canteens, changing rooms, hygiene units, anti-vandal accommodation units, waste containers and other industrial steel fabrications

It is a  high build, fast drying one-coat system with an eggshell finish which helps disguise typical dents and welds and with good colour stability. A high content of zinc phosphate anticorrosive pigment gives high levels of protection in aggressive environments.

  • Low VOC’s to aid UK SED Compliance (340 + 20gm/lt).
  • High level of anticorrosive protection in aggressive operating environments.
  • Good exterior durability and fast drying.
  • Early water spotting resistance.
  • Tested to BS476 Part 7 (Surface Spread of Flame) - Class 1 and BS476 Part 6 (Fire Propagation) - Class 0.
  • Indefinitely recoatable for easy repair.
  • Sheen finish helps disguise dents and welds.
  • Resistant to splashes of diesel, petrol and hydraulic fluid (see Product Notes
  • Tested for resistance to BS148 transformer oil and is available in a very wide colour range. 

Preparation

Surfaces to be coated must be clean, dry and free from any material such as oil, grease, salts and dirt that might affect adhesion.

Remove loose flaking or friable material. 

Where necessary, remove weld spatter and grind smooth all rough,sharp edges and weld seams.

Galvanised steel

Thoroughly degrease with Cleaner Degreaser (Product Reference H30 or ND14) and lightly abrade any very shiny areas. 

Mild Steel 

Degrease with a Cleaner Degreaser (Product Reference H30 or ND14) and either manually abrade or blast clean to Sa2½ (ISO 8501-1:2007)

If blast cleaning is not possible, phosphating is recommended for cold rolled steel to improve adhesion.

Phosphate Steel 

Degrease with Cleaner Degreaser (Product Reference H30 or ND14) and manually abrade prior to application of the Primer/Finish Coat

Stainless Steel

Degrease with Cleaner Degreaser (Product Reference H30 or ND14) and manually abrade. 

Aluminium and Alloys

Degrease with Cleaner Degreaser (Product Reference H30 or ND14) and manually abrade. 

The temperature of the ambient air, surface or paint should not fall below 5ºC during application or drying.

Application Conditions

Relative humidity should not exceed 80%. 

The surface temperature of the steel should remain at least 3ºC above the dew point.

Cold damp conditions will impair drying times and the final finish.

Overcoat with itself only

Recommended Film weight:Minimum WFT 215µm Maximum 355µm

Theoretical coverage rate: 2.4-4.7m² per litre

ViterLac C12 can be applied by the following methods.

Airless Spray: Yes

Conventional Spray: No

Application Guidance 

Airless Spray

Output fluid pressure at tip 2000 psi, 

Tip Size 13-15 thou   

Thinning with 1006 (Note thinning will reduce the film weight) 

Brush

Recommended for small areas and touch up. Thin as appropriate to achieve a smooth film flow.

Please note: application by brush will result in a reduced film thickness and is recommended only for small areas of touch up/remedial work

Drying times at a WFT at 215µm and 23ºC 

Dust Dry: 1h

Recoatable:  20 minutes 'wet on wet'

Hard Dry: 3h 

Cleaning Tools and Equipment

Clean equipment with 1006 Thinner after use

VOC content : 539-569g / litre
