About Teknos Nordica Matt Exterior Wood Finish

Teknos NORDICA MATT is a full-matt house paint for exterior wooden surfaces with excellent weather resistance. The combination of the paint’s high quality ingredients results in a paint film that has a hard surface but is still flexible. The paint film is dirt-repellent and remains cleaner longer than an ordinary house paint.

As a result of dirt-repellence, excellent colour durability and weather resistance, Nordica House Paint provides an extremely long-lasting protection for a timber surface. It is suitable for new primed wooden surfaces and those previously coated with acrylate or oil paint, such as exterior walls, facial boards and weatherboards.

There is very little absorption of water into the Nordica matt paint film, resulting in reduced moisture expansion and subsequent cracking. However, the paint film will allow moisture vapour diffusion, meaning that normal structural moisture can escape through the surface without any adverse effects.

Nordic House Paint is ideal for new and previously with acrylate and oil paint painted wooden surfaces and for industrially primed and/or undercoated wooden surfaces, e.g. exterior walls, fascia boards and weather boards.

Surface Preparation

New Wooden Surface - Treat the surface as soon as possible. At least the impregnation and priming would be best done in the summer of construction. Remove all loose material, dirt, dust and mildew. If needed, use RENSA FACADE facade cleaner.

Previously Painted or Old Wooden Surface - Replace wooden parts that are in poor condition. Remove loose matter, dirt and dust. Remove loose and poorly adherent old paint.

Wash the surface with Rensa Façade cleaner. Remove the deteriorated paint coats carefully.

The adherence of an old thick paint layer to the substrate may have been weakened, therefore the paint should be removed completely although the paint film looks intact. The old paint layer is removed by scraping sanding or by burning off (e.g. by warm-air heater or infrared heater). Secondarily paint remover or blasting can be used.

Clean rusty steel components by sanding or wire brushing.

Application

Treat bare wooden surface with clear Teknos Teknal 1401 priming oil.Once dry prime the timber with Nordica Primer.

If the surface is an old wooden surface primed with oil or painted with oil paint, use a solvent-borne alkyd primer such as Teknos Futura 3 Adhesion Primer.

Rusting steel surfaces, prime with anti-corrosion paint.

Also the end grains of industrially primed and/or undercoated timber need to be treated with priming oil or primed before applying the top coat.  Sealing will remove the danger of water being taken in by the end grain, causing splits in the timber and paint film.

Application Method

Dilute the paint 5 - 10 % by volume by water as required.

Nordica House Paint can be applied by Brush or by Airless Spray

If the paint is applied by airless spray, finish by brush.

Recommended airless spray nozzle is 0.015 - 0.019".

Application Conditions

The surface to be painted has to be dry. The moisture of the wood must be below 20 % of the dry weight of the wood.

During the application and drying period (also the following night after the painting work needs to be taken into account), the temperature of the ambient air, the surface and the paint shall be above +5 °C and the relative air humidity below 80 %.

FAQS

questions Alex Moran
Question:

Hi there I'm considering using Teknos Nordica Matt Exterior paint to coat a fairly large area (around 220m2) of previously painted timber cladding. It sounds like I should probably prime the surface with the Nordic primer. I'd like to check out the colour options in this range - can I order sample pots from you? Also, can these paints be mixed to RAL colours? Thanks a lot for any info you can give me. Alex

Answer:

Yes ideal system would be 1 coat of Nordica Primer followed by 2 coats of Nordica Matt, which can be tinted to any colour from any colour range.
