About Sikkens Cetol WF 771

Sikkens Cetol WF 771 is a high performance semi-transparent finish coat can be tinted to a wide range of translucent colours and is highly effective on all types of wood.

Ideal for heavy duty wood surfaces such as decking, garden furniture, greenhouses and fences, trellises, timber cladding and balustrades.

Colour Tinting Options:  Cetol WF771 can be tinted to the beautiful semi-transparent colours of the Sikkens Never Ending Impressions Collection.   

Preparation and Application

We always recommend doing a test patch fist. 

For exterior use, we always recommend having a tinted product, clear products will not provide the timber against appropriate UV protection.  

Extra Protection for the end grain increases the service life of decking and cladding by protecting the end grain with the Sikkens Kodrin WV456. The open ends of wood are a weak point in timber that can cause water ingress, swelling and drying out.  Apply after the first coat of Cetol WF771. 

Application Considerations

Do not apply in direct sunlight, if there is dew present, or in a moist climate. 

Allow appropriate drying time between coats (at least 4 hours)

Apply in the direction of the grain of the wood. 

Timbers which contain extractives i.e. Oak, Larch or tropical woods can cause discolouring - these can appear after weathering. 

The wood moisture content should be between 12 % and 15 %.

The selected wood, the design and the applied layer thicknesses must comply with current technical standards.

All horizontal surfaces shall be bevelled by 15 ° and all edges shall be rounded with a radius of at least 2 mm.

The substrates must be dry, free from dust and grease.

The selection and application of the coating, especially the colour shade, is important, too. Dark coatings on exterior surfaces may lead to an elevated surface temperature(up to 80 °C) in direct sunlight.

Application Method

Dipping, flooding, brushing, brushing machine, vacuum coater  @ 100-150 ml/m2

Do not thin

Application temperature  15-25 °C for substrate, air and material at approx.60% R.H.

Dust dry after approximately 30 Minutes

Sandable after approximately 4 hours 

Cleaning of Equipment   

Clean directly after use with water or with Sikkens ST 830 Cleaning Solution.
