An extremely durable waterborne semi-transparent wood stain/finish for use on new or previously stained exterior wood.
Suitable for exterior smooth surfaces such as window frames doors and conservatory woodwork. It forms a tough water repellent surface and protects the wood from weathering and retards the adverse effects of moisture and UV degradation.
Available in a wide range of semi-transparent colours, Tikkurila Unica Akva enhances the natural beauty of wood.
Surface Preparation and Application.
Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from grease, dirt, oil, wax, loose material and surface contamination.
Use Tikkurila Mould Removal Solution and Cleaning Solution.
Fill cracks, joints, nail holes, with a good quality wood filler.
Ensure that existing glossy, previously stained and filled surfaces are thoroughly sanded to ensure adequate penetration in to the surface of the wood.
Make sure that timber cladding, weather boarding and timber glazing beads, etc., are adequately fastened with non-corrosive fixings.
Good quality non-setting glazing compounds which form a protective skin should be used in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.
Particular attention with regards to preparation should be given to wood such as Cedar, Douglas Fir, Mahogany and Idigbo, which contain oil and water-soluble tannin which may impair the drying, hardening or adhesion and possible staining of surface coatings.
When coating new woodwork it is recommended that a priming coat of Valtti Base should be applied to all exterior wood which has not been pre-treated or vacuum impregnated with an approved wood preservative.
Apply liberally on end-grain.
Tikkurila Unica Akva is not recommended for use with silicone sealant or linseed oil putty.
