About Tikkurila Valtti Pohjuste (Base)

The Tikkurila Valtti Base is an oil-based pre-treatment for bare exterior wood prior to the application of Valtti Wood Finishes and Tikkurila Paints. It is absorbed into the wood retarding the adverse effects of weathering, moisture, and microbial growth.

Surface Preparation

Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from grease, dirt, oil, wax, loose material and surface contamination. Use recommended Tikkurila products for mould removal and cleaning. Fill cracks, joints, nail holes, with a good quality wood filler. Ensure that timber cladding, weather boarding and timber glazing beads are adequately fastened with non-corrosive fixings.

Application and Thinning

Methods: brushing or dipping.

Application Conditions: All surfaces to be painted must be dry, the moisture content of the wood below 20%, and with the temperature of the air at least +5C, and the relative humidity of the air below 80%.

Thinning: Valtti Base normally requires no thinning.

Touch Dry: 1/2 an hour

Re-coat:  24 Hours

As it is a clear pre-treatment product, Valtti Base will not protect wood from the adverse effects of sunlight and therefore should be over-coated as soon as is possible with Valtti Wood Finishes or Tikkurila Exterior Wood Paints.
