About Beeck Silane Primer
Beeck Silane Primer is a base coat for the exterior Beeck Silicate Paint Systems. It can be applied instead of Beeck Fixative on highly porous substrates and substrates which have salt deposits and efflorescence in the wall. It is only for use on exterior surfaces. Similar to Beeck Fixative, Beeck Silane Primer prepares the substrate for the Silicification process and creates a basecoat which ensures a top quality and flawless topcoats of the Beeck Mineral Paint System. This primer is specially designed to reduce capillary water transport whilst avoiding any further water intake. Beeck Silane Primer protects the surface from moisture penetration and capillary water transport as well as the associated activation of structurally harmful or discolouring water-soluble constituents and salts. When applied, Beeck Silane Primer will also remain breathable so that any existing moisture doesn’t become trapped. Prior to application of Beeck Silane Primer, it is important to first treat the exterior surface for any additional causes of moisture as this product is not to be used against rising damp. Beeck Silane Primer can be used in the conservation and restoration of historical buildings and structures as well as on newly built properties and structures.
Colour Selection: Beeck Silane Primer cannot be tinted to any colour as it is a colourless/transparent solution. However, for topcoats applied on top of Beeck Silane Primer we are able to tint them to more than 300 non-fading colour tones as produced in the Beeck colour range. Topcoats that can be tinted include Beeckosil and Renosil. Please see product pages for more information. Predominantly for use on:
- Surfaces with Efflorescence
- Natural Stone
- Calcium Silicate Masonry
- Lime Render
- Mineral Render
Not suitable for:
- Less porous substrates
- Horizontal or Sloping Surfaces
- Substrates with Rising Damp
- ETICS (External Thermal Insulation Composite Systems)
- Synthetic Resin Renders (K-Rend)
Beeck Silane Primer is only to be used as a deep-action preparation on highly absorbent, solid, porous mineral building materials. Prior to application ensure that all causes of salt contamination and water penetration are determined and treated. If necessary, use renovation render in the case of moisture damage and brush down any dry crumbling surfaces, efflorescence and crusts. To achieve the best results, ensure that surfaces are clean, dry firm, stable, and free from separating substances prior to application. For algae and biogenic crusts, prepare facade with Fungicide wash. Additionally, determine which gentle cleaning method is suitable by carrying out a test patch before entire application. Following testing, gently clean the substrate. Attempt a dry method of cleaning where possible as drenching the building fabric will result in renewed salt transport. Use cleaning agents containing wetting agents sparingly and rewash with clean water. Allow the surface to thoroughly dry before applying primer. Only use Beeck Silane Primer on dry substrates.
Application and Thinning
When applying Beeck Silane Primer, check the suitability and prepare the substrate as recommended. Pay particular attention to the absorbency, strength and texture of the respective substrates. Carefully cover all surfaces that are not to be treated – especially glass, ceramics, window sills, expansion joints, lacquer and anodic coatings. Provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and only use in well ventilated outdoor areas – Never apply indoors. To apply Beeck Silane Primer, flow coat self-contained areas uniformly and all over, wet-on-wet until substrate is saturated. When applying all coatings from the Beeck Mineral Paint system, always aim for a smooth and uninterrupted coating process. As a general guideline, we do not suggest that Beeck Silane Primer is applied in outside temperatures below +8˚C. Likewise, do not apply in wet, frosty, or excessively warm weather conditions. Only apply to properly prepared substrates. Protect all fresh coats from rain and direct sunlight by hanging up a scaffolding sheet in front of the surface being worked on. Beeck Silane Primer should remain un-thinned and applied using a flow coat method until saturated. Apply using electric pumps and compression sprayers with low pressure and solvent-resistant hoses or solvent-resistant brushes.
