About Tikkurila Patio Paving Stain
It is a very high-quality, penetrating stain/paint ideal to renovate concrete stones and slabs.
It is easy and quick to apply to create a completely new look.
The product does not form any film on the stones, but it is absorbed by its pores.
The stones do not become slippery and their appearance is greatly enhanced for long lasting good looks.
Tikkurila Patio Paving Stain is not suitable for non-porous surfaces
Application conditions
The surface to be treated must be dry. The temperature of the air, surface and stain must be at least +5°C and the relative humidity of the air below 80 % during painting and drying.
Surface preparation
Clean surfaces from dirt, dust, moss and lichen. Wash surfaces with a pressure washer and use a cleaner degreaser following the manufacturer’s instructions.
If the paving stones or slabs are relatively new, use turbo nozzle or at least sufficient pressure to ensure a suitable absorbent surface.
Application
Always make a trial application to find out the most suitable colour, application method, amount of thinner and number of coats for the paving stones to be treated.
Thin the first coat up to 50 % (2 parts of stain, 1 part of water).
Stir the stain well before and during the use of the product. Apply with a brush, roller or knapsack spray.
When using a knapsack spray, finish with a roller or brush, when necessary, to ensure that the product penetrates into the substrate pores.
Apply evenly and without interruption to avoid overlapping.
Undyed (concrete grey) paving stones and slabs:
Apply 1-2 coats depending on the absorbency of the substrate and desired depth of colour.
When planning to apply several coats, it is recommended to thin the first coat.
Two full coats are recommended for best results.
Industrially dyed paving stones and slabs:
Apply 1-2 coats depending on the absorbency of the substrate and desired depth of colour.
Normally one full coat is sufficient.
Note
Paving stones and slabs are exposed to continuous weathering and they may be subject to severe mechanical stress.
Therefore, they might also need a maintenance treatment almost every year. Reserve enough stain of the same batch for one uniform surface to avoid possible colour differences.
The product is translucent and therefore unsuitable to change colour of previously industrially dyed paving stone or slab.
Stones or slabs of different age might turn out differently in terms of colour.
Impurities like motor oil, crystallization of salts or other impurities will have an effect on the final colour.
Cleaning of tools
Clean tools with water after use
Handle the treated surface with care, as the product achieves its final hardness and durability in approximately 4 weeks in normal conditions.
