RUST-OLEUM Rust-O-Thane® Coatings 9900 are based on two-component, solvent-based acrylic / polyurethane resins formulated for application on manually prepared rusted steel surfaces. It can also be used on clean, blasted steel, primed steel, concrete and previously coated surfaces in light-medium exposure conditions.

Remove grease, oil and all other surface contaminations with ND14 Cleaner Degreaser or high pressure (steam). Sand previous coatings that are in good condition to remove gloss and to roughen the surface slightly check compatibility. The surface must be clean and dry during application.
Steel: Remove loose rust, mill scale and deteriorated coatings by hand, power tool or blast cleaning.
Concrete and masonry: New concrete or masonry should cure and dry for at least 30 days before applying the coating system. Remove laitance, any loose or unsound concrete or deteriorated coatings. Smooth concrete should be roughened.
Application and Thinning
Brush/Roller: Up to max 5 vol.%; Thinner 190.
Use natural long bristle brushes or medium pile polyamide (perlon 8-12 mm.) rollers.
Roller application requires 2 coats to achieve recommended dry film thickness.
Spray application: when spraying this product apply a mist-coat first, allow to flash-off for 10 minutes, then apply a full cross-coat.
After 2 hours a second coat can be applied wet in wet.
Air-atomised spray: 10-20 vol.% - Thinner 191.
Gravity cup, pressure cup, suction cup and HVLP. Tip size: 1.2 -1.8 mm Atomising pressure: 2 - 4 bar.
Airless spray: Up to max 10% vol.% - Thinner 191.
Pneumatic and electric airless equipment.
Tip size: 0.013-0.017 inch Fluid pressure: 125 - 175 bar.
